The Majestic Elephant...

During recent meditations, the mighty and majestic elephant has been visiting me, and this prompted me to find out a little more about this incredible mammal…

Elephants immediately bring to mind Ganesh (Ganesha) the Hindu elephant-headed God of wisdom. This instantly recognised deity is widely revered across the Indian sub-continent.

But looking a little deeper, it is clear to see just why elephants are sacred animals – they are known for their loyalty, and the families stick together supporting one another through ill health, old age and mutually help bring up young calves. Elephants stand together, protecting each other, and so in many ways represent unity and togetherness.

There is a majestic power and strength about elephants, and this is more than the obvious physical strength. They have a sense of knowing about them, a connection to old wisdom and ancient power.

The old adage ‘an elephant never forgets’ seems true in the sense that they never forget the people or places that cause them harm or injury.

Thinking about the relevance of the elephant for me, I think relates to the concept of strength. Elephant helps us to be strong within our Selves, to stand firm and not to waiver or falter. Linking in to the ancient wisdom and power that we all have within us can help us to find true strength even when life feels chaotic and uncertain.

So, working with elephant energy will help us to reclaim our true Selves, and to connect to the power within. The stronger each of us can stand, the more we can help others to do the same…
